Mid-Hudson Auction Galleries will be holding their “Movie Star News Auction” April 6th and 7th in New York and via online bidding partner LiveAuctioneers. Back in 2008, the Original Prop Blog published an article about “Buyer’s Premiums” assessed by the major auction houses in the marketplace (see Auction House Buyer’s Premiums: On The Rise). With their upcoming Debbie Reyonlds sale in June, Profiles in History raised their rates by 5%, so I thought it would be an appropriate time to revisit the topic, as well as compare and contrast with findings from the article published May 30, 2008, with updates as of today, May 31, 2011 – three years later. As reported last month, auction house Guernsey’s is holding an auction event later this month, September 23rd, in New York City. Most known in the original prop and costume field for their 2008 “The Pugliese Collection” sale, this event is very modest by comparison. With material spanning sports, music, historical memorabilia, and other disciplines, and at just over 100 lots, that which might be of interest to original film and television prop, costume, and memorabilia collectors is limited. Guernsey’s made a splash in the entertainment memorabilia field in March 2008 with their auction event comprising the sale of “The Pugliese Collection“, which garnered significant mainstream media coverage (including The Today Show) and some very impressive prices realized on certain lots.
