As reported last month, auction house Guernsey’s is holding an auction event later this month, September 23rd, in New York City. Most known in the original prop and costume field for their 2008 “The Pugliese Collection” sale, this event is very modest by comparison. With material spanning sports, music, historical memorabilia, and other disciplines, and at just over 100 lots, that which might be of interest to original film and television prop, costume, and memorabilia collectors is limited.

Guernsey’s made a splash in the entertainment memorabilia field in March 2008 with their auction event comprising the sale of “The Pugliese Collection“, which garnered significant mainstream media coverage (including The Today Show) and some very impressive prices realized on certain lots. Focused primarily on Profiles in History’s Joe Maddelena and their “Hollywood Auction 31” event at the end of the month, it also remarks on the Guernsey’s “The Pugliese Pop Culture Collection” held over the weekend, the ongoing NBC Universal online auctions, and David Jackson’s Back Lot Props. Well, the much talked about event has now come and gone. So what happened?
Not having attended the event, or bid on any items, all I can really do is report on discussions from online forums and review the results of the auction.
