As noted in my article yesterday (…”Costume Junkie” Response<\/a>), I have been contacted by both Mr. Armando Alvarez (\u201dSuper Hollywood\u201d, \u201csuper38<\/a>\u201c) as well as Mr. Edward Pugia (\u201dCostume Junkie\u201d, \u201ccostumejunkie<\/a>\u201c) in regards to my articles about Superman costumes in the marketplace (see \u201cQuestions About Superman Costumes in the Marketplace: Authenticity, Sources, Quantity<\/a>\u201c, \u201cUpdate<\/a>\u201c, \u201cUpdate 2<\/a>\u201c, \u201cUpdate 3<\/a>\u201c).<\/p>\n

I spoke with Mr. Alvarez on the phone at length on 1\/27 and 1\/28, and invited him to share on this blog as much information as he is able to, in the form of a Reader Comment, and I would quote such statements in an update article to provide him an opportunity to address outstanding questions about the Superman, Superboy, Supergirl, and Greatest American Hero costumes with \u201cSuper Hollywood\u201d provenance\/Certificates of Authenticity\/Letters of Authenticity.<\/p>\n

I have exchanged several e-mails with Mr. Pugia this week, and had extended the same offer to him, which led to his statement, noted above.<\/p>\n

Mr. Alvarez has since posted a response to Mr. Pugia’s statement, which is copied below and can be seen HERE<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I do not warrant nor affirm the truthfulness or accuracy of any of the information shared, but feel it is appropriate to provide a platform to respond for those to whom I have specifically addressed questions, as raised in my articles. Hello Jason, I enjoyed speaking with you last week and
\nthank you for your invitation to participate in the
\ndialog. I would like to touch on a few issues
\nbrought out by Mr. Pugia and to separate fact from
\nfiction.
\nFact:
\nMr. Pugia writes:
\n“We purchased the costume through Super38 (Ebay id)
\nSuper Hollywood, ie Armando Alvarez. Since I’ve never
\nowned a Superman or Supergirl costume we went on the
\nCOA and great Ebay reputation of Super
\nHollywood\/Armando Alvarez.<\/em><\/p>\n

We did relist the costume after assurances from
\nArmando Alvarez, response from him:<\/em><\/p>\n

HI Edward, those rumors started with Gerard
\nChristopher who played Superboy on the t.v. series.
\nHe was doing that to get back at Ms. Mungia. Ms.
\nMungia had 20 Superboy costumes that were being held
\nfor him, but he was not able to pay her. They were
\nworn once on his show, and held by her. This has
\nnothing to do with Superman, but never the less it’s
\naffected both the Superboy and Superman pieces.
\nSince that time, what he spread regarding fakes has
\ntaken on a life of it’s own. Now you have people
\nsharing their two cents worth without any facts, just
\nrepeating what they’ve heard, and usually not
\ncorrectly.
\nThis response is to your private email, please do not
\npost on the messages boards. Thank you. (Also we
\nsold one for about $27,900 with Profiles, complete)
\nSuper Hollywood”<\/em><\/p>\n

Therefore, we relisted the costume for what we had
\ninto the suit, replica belt, replica boots, and
\nmannequin. ALso, I noticed that I made a mistake
\nlisting the suit and put Superman III. Therefore I
\nremoved the III from the listing as it would have been
\nincorrect to keep it in the auction title and
\ndescription.<\/em><\/p>\n

THE ABOVE IS ACCURATE<\/em><\/p>\n

Fiction:
\nThis time I emailed Armando Alvarez to ask if he could
\npurchase them back from me, SINCE he said he had
\npeople looking all the time and I purchased his last
\nsuits.<\/em><\/p>\n

I sent him 3 emails over 10 days just cutting and
\npasting the same message about purchasing them back
\nand NOTHING.<\/em><\/p>\n

THE ABOVE IS FALSE<\/em><\/p>\n

Every email received by Ed,was responded too. Ed,
\nthen decided to call and left a profanity laced tirade
\non my voicemail.
\nTo which I replied via email:
\n“I just heard your phone call a few mins. ago. I was
\nquite taken aback to hear you and for your use of
\nprofanity. I need you now to file a protest with
\npaypal and ebay and my district attorney. I have a
\nfew clients who have shared some interesting
\ninformation about you regarding bogus Star Trek
\ncostumes. As you and I know, that is par for the
\ncourse where it seems everyone bad mouths everyone
\nelse.<\/em><\/p>\n

Regarding the Superman\/Supergirl costumes: you
\npurchased those costumes from me a collector. You
\neven bought mannequins to show them off to me. I too
\nhave every email between us. Furthermore this item
\nwas not purchased through ebay but directly from us on
\nJuly 23rd. You were satisfied with what you received,
\nuntil you tried to resell them.<\/em><\/p>\n

On another note, I know that you must be going through
\na lot with the situation with your wife. All I
\nrequest is an apology for your profanity towards me.
\nUp to this point you have been nothing but a gentleman
\nand I feel that I have responded in kind. Again, I
\nhave ALWAYS replied to your emails, without threats
\nbeing involved.

At that point, Mr. Pugia had his wife Rachel call me
\nthe following day to apologize for her husband.<\/em><\/p>\n

BAD DEALER ALLERT – Costume Junkie
\nMany of you know that I detest fraud and dishonesty in
\nthis hobby. As someone with a well read blog (as well
\nas being an attorney by training), I believe I have a
\nduty to help protect you all from the unscrupulous
\ntypes that prey on good natured collectors like most
\nStar Trek collectors are.<\/em><\/p>\n

I have to warn you all against doing business with
\nEdward Pugia, who goes under the eBay handle
\nCostumeJunkie. This past week he joined the Star Trek
\nProp, Costume and Auction Forum. From the beginning I
\nfelt uneasy, and I asked him kindly to not try and use
\nthe forum to run his business. He returned a rather
\nrude response and when I accepted him on the forum,
\nthe first thing he did was to post two Borg costumes
\nfor sale!<\/em><\/p>\n

Well, if that wasn’t bad enough, he deceptively listed
\nthe costumes by not disclosing their deteriorating
\ncondition and then used photos that WERE NOT of the
\ncostume and claimed they were. The costume in question
\nhad previously been purchased by Dana Hammontree, a
\nlong time prop collector and well known in prop
\ncollecting circles., Dan had to return the costume to
\nIt’s a Wrap because the costume was falling apart and
\npieces were flaking off. It also had a bad latex foam
\nsmell. Edward Pugia then bought the costume and failed
\nto disclose any of this and used photos of another
\ncostume he bought from IAW to sell it. Finally, when
\ncalled on this he was rude and unapologetic. Sound
\nlike deceiving people must be standard practice for
\nthis guy.<\/em><\/p>\n

Costume Junkie has now been banned from the Star Trek
\nProp, Costume and Auction Forum and I strongly suggest
\nyou all stay away from him. He has lied about his web
\nsite traffic and the amount of money he spends with
\nIAW. I have spoken to several long time prop
\ncollectors and they have all said that they know of
\nproblems that collectors have had with him. The guy is
\nnot only untrustworthy, but a liar.<\/em><\/p>\n

Please don’t do business with him!<\/em><\/p>\n

Another issue with Mr. Pugia has to do with selling
\nUniversal Star Trek the movie exp. costumes as
\noriginal movie worn costumes.<\/em><\/p>\n

How do I know that Mr. Pugia has not had the original
\ncostume reproduced and was attempting to sell them
\nwith original (or duplicated) COA’s. During his ebay
\nauction, he was also selling Storm Trooper
\nreproductions. He also reproduced the belt, and the
\nboots for the Superman costume. I’m sure this would
\nnot be the first time this has happened. Even Alec
\npoints out: “Edward Pugia then bought the costume and
\nfailed to disclose any of this and USED PHOTO’S OF
\nANOTHER COSTUME he bought from IAW to SELL IT .
\nFinally, when called on this he was RUDE and
\nUNAPOLOGETIC. Sound like deceiving people must be
\nstandard practice for this guy.”<\/em><\/p>\n

As Alec says “”The guy is not only untrustworthy, but
\na liar” Not to mention ill-mannered, rude and a
\ncoward.<\/em><\/p>\n
