Gone With The Wind, Global Antiques, and Auction Depot LA – “Original Dagger Sword”

I recently came across an eBay auction that ended in March, offered by Auction Depot LA with a Global Antiques COA titled: “GONE WITH THE WIND FILM PROP ORIGINAL DAGGER SWORD”. This piece realized $713.00 at auction.

This seller and consignor/authenticator have already been topics of past articles: [Read more…]

Reader Comment: “The Bride’s Hero Sword from Kill Bill”, Entertainment Movie Props

Collector Richard DeLong has contacted me asking for help getting in touch with Entertainment Movie Props in regards to an item he has made payments on, so I asked him to post his issue as a “Reader Comment” in the original article (see “eBay’s puttieface & Entertainment Movie Props“; see also “…”votehillary” Update“) about that seller and that I would repost it as a new article in the event someone can assist him. The Last Samurai? UK to Ban “Imitation” Swords…

According to recent news reports, there is a plan to outlaw replica and imitation Samurai swords in England beginning April 2008. Under this plan, those in violation of this proposed law will face stiff fines and up to six months in jail. It appears that exemptions will include genuine Japanese swords owned by collectors and enthusiasts.

This is an interesting development, following the October 1, 2007 implementation of new laws in the UK restricting the manufacture, import, and sale of imitation firearms under the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006 (see “Research & Dialogue About Importing Firearms to the UK“).

Obviously, this trend of banning replica/imitation firearms and now certain bladed weapons does have an impact on the collection of original props for hobbyists in the UK. [Read more…]

300: Did They Reuse Props/Designs from Other Films?

There is a current eBay auction in which a sword is being marketed as “the Hero Bronze sword used by Ephialtes in the film 300”.

The auction (Item # 300126771921), “FRANK MILLER 300 original film prop Hero sword Ephialte“, from eBay seller “www.rareprops.com” (RareProps, also selling on the website www.RareProps.net), shows a photo of a sword that appears to be of the same style of swords also used in the film, Troy.
