With their upcoming sale, The Dreier Collection, Part 1, a few principals in our art market have raised questions with me privately with regards to one of the items listed for auction, Lot 106 GEORGE REEVES “SUPERMAN” CAPE FROM THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN. Comic Connect is holding a very special, interesting, and historic auction for “The Check That Bought Superman”. In fact, it is a check written by DC Comics in 1938 to Siegel and Shuster, creators of the character and comic book Superman, for $412, $130 of which was purportedly for the rights to the character. Martin discusses the upcoming “Hollywood Legends” auction and some of the material offered for sale, including the much talked about dresses owned and worn by Whitney Houston, which has garnered a lot of mainstream media attention due to her recent death. Julien’s Auctions has published the online catalog for their upcoming sale – “Hollywood Legends”, which will be held at their Beverly Hills gallery on Saturday, March 1st and Sunday, April 1st.
