2012 is Prop Store’s fifth year exhibiting at Comic Con in San Diego, and they continue to improve on their visually pleasing presentation and wide ranging original props and costumes on display. This year, the centerpiece holding the front corner spot is John Hurt’s spacesuit from Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979). Some fan made video showing on set, behind the scenes film from the making of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi was published on YouTube yesterday. Filmed on Super 8 in 1982 in Buttercup Valley, California, the footage features shots of Jabba the Hutt’s sandbarge and incredible action shots of Luke Skywalker fighting his henchmen, Boba Fett flying sequences, and more. Dan Levin from Premiere Props appeared on Access Hollywood today to talk about this weekend’s Hollywood Auction Extravaganza V sale event. Items discussed in the segment include pieces attributed to Madonna, Liberace, and Michael Jackson. Strangely, not only do the hosts/talent handle the auction items, one is “almost” sold during the segment, and many of the wardrobe pieces are worn by the hosts as well as they close out the episode.
The online catalog for the Premiere Props “Hollywood Auction Extravaganza V”, scheduled for March 24-25, is now listed via online bidding partner iCollector as well as a traditional-style catalog in PDF format from their own website. Legendary conceptual designer and artist Ralph McQuarrie, best known for his work on the original Star Wars trilogy, passed away today at age 82. His vision was fundamental in the creation of many characters and worlds in popular films, and is greatly respected in the industry and by fans. Having passed today, a number of sentiments are being expressed on the Internet as news spreads. As a huge fan of Star Wars myself, I truly appreciate his significant contributions to the works and his contributions to other important films, including Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and E.T.
