Prop Store’s Latest “Rick Baker: Monster Maker” Online Auction Live

Prop Store will be holding new auctions as part of their “Rick Baker: Monster Maker” online-only event starting this week, and running at least four weeks, with new material added weekly.  The no reserve auction boasts original props and costumes directly from the legendary effects artist.  Prop Store held a live Rick Baker auction event at Universal City back in May. Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2015: “Secrets of the Cantina” Discussion Panel

The “Secrets of the Cantina” panel at Star Wars Celebration was one of the events that I was most looking forward to, and it did not disappoint.  Featuring co-presenters Pablo Hidalgo from the Lucasfilm Story Group and Tom Spina of Tom Spina Designs, they delved deep into the mythos of one of the most popular scenes from Star Wars: A New Hope, talking exclusively about those creatures (and ugly humans) that inhabited that infamous bar.  At times playing out like a spoken word CSI: Tatooine, they talked about some of the crazy methods they’ve developed to identify some of the actors behind the monsters, as well as the actors who played parts with make-up but without the masks. Bonhams ‘Turner Classic Movies (TCM) Presents… There’s No Place Like Hollywood’ Auction to be Held in New York on November 25th

Later this month, Bonhams will be holding their follow-up to last years, “What Dreams Are Made Of: A Century of Movie Magic at Auction as Curated by Turner Classic Movies”.  On November 24th, again in conjunction with Turner Classic Movies, they will host the “TCM Presents… There’s No Place Like Hollywood” live auction  New York (and simulcast in Los Angeles) on November 25th. TCM will “make a contribution to support The Film Foundation, an organization dedicated to protecting and preserving motion picture history”. [Read more…]

London Film Museum Features New “Myths and Legends” Exhibition, 90th Birthday Celebration with Ray Harryhausen and Friends

The London Film Museum (formerly the Movieum) hosted a special 90th birthday celebration for Ray Harryhausen last week, with guests including Peter Jackson, Rick Baker, John Landis, Terry Gilliam, and Mr. Harryhausen himself.   This occasion also marked the opening of a special exhibition about the life’s work of Mr. Harryhausen – “Myths and Legends” includes the display of original “Dynamation” creatures from the Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation.
