Profiles in History is working with Marvel Entertainment to hold a special auction for original props, costumes, set pieces, vehicles, and other production material from ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ (2011), along with a few special bonus pieces from ‘Thor’ (2011) and ‘Iron Man 2’ (2010). The catalog can be viewed at the Profiles in History website in what appears to be embedded iCollector auction software . Their auction will be held during the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) at McCormick Place on April 14th.

My good friend Simon Lee of the UK (interviewed by the Original Prop Blog a few years ago) late last year began collecting original movie prop costume donations from fellow community members to help two of his friends raise money for very worthy causes. This past weekend, I had an opportunity to spend some times with friends and Mr. Steve Sansweet at his ‘Rancho Obi-Wan’ museum in Sonoma County. Mr. Sansweet is famous worldwide for his incredible collection of Star Wars artifacts and memorabilia, having written and published many books, as well as having worked for Lucasfilm for over 15 years as Director of Content Management and Head of Fan Relations. His museum holds over 200,000 Star Wars items and spans over 9,000 square feet, and being able to view his diverse and comprehensive collection is truly amazing. About a year ago, I published a series of uncharacteristically informal, personal, and in many cases off topic articles to close out 2010 (see London Journal 2010). If doing it again to close out 2011 makes it a tradition, well, I can hope that is the case, but cannot predict if I’ll be making a similar trip next year. In any event, I will be traveling to three major cities this year – London, Paris, and Liverpool (having visited both UK destinations last year; this will be the first visit to France). As with last year, much of the journey will be adventures related to various rock/pop music concerts, but will again be meeting up with many of my friends in the television and movie prop collecting field, and visits to prop-related venues. The Profiles in History ‘Icons of Hollywood Auction’ catalog does away with the traditional “Hollywood Auction” numbering format (which ended with 44?), and is now available as a free PDF download on their official site, with hardcopies available for purchase as well.
