Dan Lanigan’s “Prop Culture” by ABC Studios & Cinema Relics Productions – Season One Streaming on Disney+ Starting May 1st

The entire first season of Prop Culture is dropping on the Disney+ streaming service starting May 1, 2020, featuring all eight episodes.  The series by ABC Studios and Cinema Relics Productions and distributed by Disney+ is a documentary/docuseries featuring host and Executive Producer Dan Lanigan as he revisits popular Disney films from the perspective of learning more about the people who brought the movies to life as well as taking a closer look at the props, costumes, and other production assets, techniques and effects employed in each. Profiles in History ‘Hollywood Auction 53’ Results in Passed Lots, A Few Surprises; “Jackpot” Reserves/Estimates Finally Out of Control?

I have been traveling for the past week, so did not personally watch the latest Profiles in History sale (“Hollywood Auction 53”) live, but received a number of e-mails and texts from others in this art market commenting about the overall “lackluster” and “disappointing” results of the event, though there were a few surprises and stand out pieces (such as the Lord of the Rings Legolas bow going for $372,000 with Buyer’s Premium, Kate Winslet’s dress from Titanic selling for $330,000 with BP, and an X-Wing model from Star Wars realizing approximately $270,000 with BP).  Based on a spreadsheet compiled by a friend, focusing on Lots 433-902 (the second half of the catalog, following classic Hollywood photos, etc.), about 40% of the items were not sold.  [Read more…]

Christie’s “Pop Culture: Entertainment Memorabilia” Live Auction November 29th, eCatalogue and PDF Catalog Online

The annual Winter auction in the UK by Christies for their Popular Culture department is scheduled for November 29th in South Kensington.  The “Pop Culture: Entertainment Memorabilia” catalog is now available online in a downloadable PDF format as well as an online eCatalogue at Christies.com. Second “D23 Expo” at Anaheim Convention Center in August 2011 to Again Feature “Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives”

As reported in 2009, Disney held their first D23 Expo (see “D23 Expo” at Anaheim Convention Center in September 2009 to Feature “Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives”).  This year will mark the second such event, at the same facility though, per a press release, it will be twice the size.  A highlight for the show will be the return of the “Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives”, boasting “80 years of Disney history”.  The event is scheduled to run August 19-21.
