And Now For Something Completely Different… Part Deux: The London/Paris/Liverpool Journal (+ Summer/Fall Concert Review: The Pixies, Billy Idol, Hall & Oates, Coldplay)

About a year ago, I published a series of uncharacteristically informal, personal, and in many cases off topic articles to close out 2010 (see London Journal 2010).  If doing it again to close out 2011 makes it a tradition, well, I can hope that is the case, but cannot predict if I’ll be making a similar trip next year.  In any event, I will be traveling to three major cities this year – London, Paris, and Liverpool (having visited both UK destinations last year; this will be the first visit to France).  As with last year, much of the journey will be adventures related to various rock/pop music concerts, but will again be meeting up with many of my friends in the television and movie prop collecting field, and visits to prop-related venues. Superman, Batman, The Avengers Invade American Cities with On Location Filming (Plano, IL – Pittsburgh, PA – Cleveland, OH)

Over the past few months, the Internet has been buzzing about on location filming for some of the upcoming blockbuster superhero-genre movies (in 2012 and 2013), with on location filming in American cities.  As such, all manner of photos and videos have been shared online, offering glimpses into both “first look” images of costumes and sets, as well as a look into the film making process itself.  The second successive Superman reboot (now with Zack Snyder directing), Man of Steel, has been shooting in Plano, IL, the third of the Chris Nolan Batman films, The Dark Knight Rises, has been filming in Pittsburgh, PA, and Marvel Comics’ launch of The Avengers franchise team movie helmmed by Joss Whedon has set up location shooting in Cleveland, OH. “The Making of The Empire Strikes Back” Video Trailer Promotes Book to be Released October 12th

One of my all-time favorite books is The Making of Star Wars: The Definitive Story Behind the Original Film (as reviewed upon release in April 2007) by J.W. Rinzler.  Consequently, I’ve been very excited since I heard the news of the follow-up, The Making of the Empire Strikes Back, now slated for an October 12, 2010 release.  This week the publisher released a video trailer for the work, which can be viewed below: [Read more…]
