The London Film Museum (formerly the Movieum) hosted a special 90th birthday celebration for Ray Harryhausen last week, with guests including Peter Jackson, Rick Baker, John Landis, Terry Gilliam, and Mr. Harryhausen himself. This occasion also marked the opening of a special exhibition about the life’s work of Mr. Harryhausen – “Myths and Legends” includes the display of original “Dynamation” creatures from the Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation. This study is, in my opinion, the definitive primer on original Superman costumes from the Christopher Reeve films of the 70s and 80s. As part of the ongoing analysis, and in buidling tools to assist with authenticating costumes currently in the marketplace, I thought it would be productive to analyze the colors of the costume, and establish benchmarks using confirmed authentic costumes as reference.
