In that this can cause confusion for anyone searching for “The Original Prop Blog” – since the name is nearly the identical – I thought it would be appropriate to publish a public notice and statement of the fact that “The Prop Blog” has no connection nor affiliation whatsoever with “The Original Prop Blog”. “Shall We Play A Game?” Original IMSAI 8080 Computer Movie Prop from WarGames to be Sold
As covered by the Original Prop Blog back in 2008 (see “WIRED WarGames Roundtable, Original IMSAI 8080 Computer”), WIRED magazine published an article about classic 80s film WarGames (1983) starring Matthew Broderick. The article included an image of the original IMSAI 8080 computer that was used in the movie, which was remarkable in that the prop was saved and preserved for over a quarter of a century. I’ve learned in recent weeks that this piece of motion picture history will soon be made available for sale, so this serves as a notice to the original prop community in advance of further details. Editorial: Reaction To “What’s Hot In Hollywood Collectibles” Article By The Seattle Times
The Seattle Times published an article this week about collecting original movie props and costumes, presented as a Q&A interview with Antiques Roadshow appraiser Philip Weiss of Philip Weiss Auctions. As is typical with mainstream media coverage of the hobby, much of it is preoccupied with discussion of high prices realized at auction. However, there is also a focus on questions about authenticity and fraud (which I applaud), though some of the responses – particularly those about eBay – have prompted me to share some of my own personal opinions and reactions.
