Movie Prop Thief Caught On Tape UPDATE – Stolen John Wayne & William Holden Movie Prop Guns Returned, Reward For Thief Still At Large

KATU.com today reports that the movie prop guns that were on display at Movie Madness (a Winchester rifle used by John Wayne in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) and a shotgun used by William Holden in The Wild Bunch (1969)) and stolen last Summer were returned to the store by a third party this past weekend.  In July 2012, the Hollywood memorabilia was stolen from the store and captured on video in the Portland, Oregon store.  Law enforcement are still asking for the public’s help finding Erick Duanne Johnson, 47, based on the evidence in the video tape recording of the theft, and Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to Johnson’s arrest. Amazon.com Launches “Entertainment Collectibles Store”, Puts Hollywood and Pop Culture Third Party Memorabilia Offerings Under New Marketplace Brand/Umbrella

Today many of the financial-types of news sites are reporting on a “Entertainment Collectibles Store” on the popular online retailer website Amazon.com, purported to offer “more than 350,000 unique and rare collectibles”.  Much of this material has been listed for sale in Amazon’s Marketplace for some time, so it seems more like an effort to brand and better coordinate these third party memorabilia offerings. ScreenUsed will be holding their third live auction on March 9th. The auction catalog is now available online via a PDF download via their official website and collectors can bid on iCollector.  In chatting with Desi DosSantos about the sale, he said: “This auction has several items that have not been uncovered for a long time, in particular, Quint’s Machete and Hooper’s Dive Mask, both from Jaws. Profiles in History Files Fraud Lawsuit Against Non-Paying Auction Bidder on “Ten Commandments” Movie Prop Tablets

Auction house Profiles in History filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court last week against one of its customers, Albert Tapper, claiming that the buyer won two items in their “Hollywood Auction 53” sale event last month, but only agreed to pay for one (“Lot 197 | Clark Gable early signed, handwritten letter to his dad”) that sold for $8,000 plus buyer’s premium, and not the more expensive lot (“Lot 422 | Charlton Heston “Moses” prop Ten Commandments tablets from The Ten Commandments”) which realized $60,000 plus buyer’s premium.   [Read more…]

Honda Motorcycle Movie Prop Used in “James Bond: Skyfall” in Charity Auction

Honda UK has donated to charity auction the modified Honda CRF250R motorcycle used by Daniel Craig as James Bond in the newest film in the 007 franchise.  The motorcycle was used in the opening chase sequence in the movie, and proceeds well benefit BBC Children as part of a larger fundraising auction event on eBay. This is Part 1 of a two-part series chronicling my visit to the EMP Museum in Seattle.  This Part 1 feature will focus on the current Movie-related exhibits at the museum, while Part 2 has been published on sister site, Rock Subculture Journal, and that photo journal will cover the Music-related exhibits.  The current movie and television related exhibits include “Icons of Science Fiction” and “Can’t Look Away: The Lure of the Horror Film”.
