Julien’s Auctions Files Lawsuit Against Live Auctioneers Over Michael Jackson “Neverland” Auction for Breach of Contract and Negligence

Following last month’s development of a jury rejecting a lawsuit by collector Richard LaPointe over the canceled “Neverland” auction of Michael Jackson memorabilia, Julien’s Auction has now filed its own complaint against Live Auctioneers, the online bidding service provider for the event.  The new complaint, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, cites two causes of auction – breach of contract and negligence. juliens-auctions-juliens-live-auction-service-online-x380

In support of their Summer Sale in Las Vegas June 26-27, Julien’s Auctions has today announced their “Julien’s Live” online bidding service.  Julien’s Auctions has historically used the excellent Auction Network in support of their live auction events, so this marks a change of bringing online bidding in-house, as we have seen with other auction houses such as Heritage Auction Galleries and Christie’s. Fox News Channel Interviews LiveAuctioneers CEO About Profiles in History… Still No Mention of Profiles in History

A few days ago, there was an interesting ABC News interview with LiveAuctioneers CEO Julian Ellison about this week’s Profiles in History auction events (see Hollywood Auction 33 & Hollywood Auction 34) – with absolutely no mention of Profiles in History whatsoever.  The trend continues, with a Fox News Channel “Strategy Room” round table discussion in which the auction is discussed with absolutely no mention of Profiles in History. LiveAuctioneers Positioning To Take eBay Live Auctions Business

eBay announced earlier this year that they would be dropping their eBay Live Auctions business on December 31, 2008 (see eBay Live Auction Format Being Retired at End of 2008).  The “Live Auction” format differs from eBay’s traditional business model of scheduled, “online-only” auctions, and typically (as it relates to original props, wardrobe, and memorabilia auctions from movies and television) provides collectors the ability to bid on items auctioned “live” over the Internet, in real time, in lieu of being present at the actual auction event with people bidding in person, with the auctioneer recognizing “floor” bids, telephone bids, absentee bids, and online bids.  It appears that LiveAuctioneers.com is positioning itself to absorb this business and compete in the live online auction space.
