San Diego Comic-Con 2017: Prop Store TV & Movie Props and Costumes Exhibit Promotes Upcoming Live Auction

This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2017.  As usual, Prop Store had the most impressive exhibit for collectors of original TV and movie props and costumes.  They updated the layout and look for their space this year and even though it was the same overall footprint, it felt much bigger.  This year, the focus of their presentation was for their upcoming live auction in the Fall, though there was also some space dedicated to their current Spectral auction. San Diego Comic-Con 2016: Profiles in History Comic Book Artwork Exhibit (#SDCC)

San-Diego-Comic-Con-2016-Profiles-In-History-Exhibit-Frank-Frazetta-Darabont-Comic-Art-FI

This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2016.  This year, auction house Profiles in History had an all-artwork exhibit, with pieces from their upcoming Frank Darabont Collection on display, including Frank Frazetta works among the highlights.  Profiles has marketed “Sea Witch” as “The Only Million Dollar Art Piece at Comic-Con” and “The Single Most Important and Most Valuable Frazetta Painting to EVER be Offered At Auction (pre-sale estimate of $1,000,000 – $1,500,000)”, so it will be interesting to see if it meets the reserve at the July 30th auction.  I have been reporting on Profiles in History as registered press at Comic Con International every year for the past nine years (see articles from 2008, 2009 Part 1 & 2009 Part 2, 2010 Part 1 & 2010 Part 2, 2011, 2012, 2013 Part 1 & 2013 Part 2, 2014, 2015), but this is the first in which they did not exhibit any TV and/or movie props and costumes. “James Bond Spectre: The Auction” by Christie’s & EON Productions Coming; Live Auction Feb 18th & Online Auction Ends Feb 23rd

Christies-James-Bond-Spectre-The-Auction-EON-Productions-Catalog-Download-PDF-Information-FI

The most exciting original movie prop and costume sale event announced thus far this year would have to be the “James Bond Spectre: The Auction” coming from Christie’s and EON Productions.  James Bond is one of the strongest and oldest genre film franchises and the material that is part of this auction comes straight from the production with their sanctioning, making it all the more desirable.  Split into part invitation-only live auction (10 lots on February 18th) and part online-only auction (14 lots with bidding running from February 16th through February 23rd), the 24 lots from Spectre come directly form the EON Productions archives, along with donations from Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, Jesper Christensen and Sam Smith.  All proceeds from the auctions “will benefit Médecins Sans Frontières and number of other charitable institutions”.  [Read more…]
