Julien’s Auctions Replaces Auction Network with Live Auctioneers for Michael Jackson Sale

michael-jackson-juliens-auctions-liveauctioneers-x380

As reported in previous articles – see Auction Events | Julien’s Auctions | Michael Jackson – Michael Jackson’s MJJ Productions filed a lawsuit against Julien’s Auctions for the return of personal property from the Neverland Ranch that was consigned to the auction house with a sale planned this month.  These events appeared to have prompted long time auction partner Auction Network to withdraw as the online bidding service provider.  In reviewing the JuliensAuctions.com and LiveAuctioneers.com websites today, it appears that Auction Network has been replaced with competitor Live Auctioneers. Fox News Channel Interviews LiveAuctioneers CEO About Profiles in History… Still No Mention of Profiles in History

A few days ago, there was an interesting ABC News interview with LiveAuctioneers CEO Julian Ellison about this week’s Profiles in History auction events (see Hollywood Auction 33 & Hollywood Auction 34) – with absolutely no mention of Profiles in History whatsoever.  The trend continues, with a Fox News Channel “Strategy Room” round table discussion in which the auction is discussed with absolutely no mention of Profiles in History. LiveAuctioneers Positioning To Take eBay Live Auctions Business

eBay announced earlier this year that they would be dropping their eBay Live Auctions business on December 31, 2008 (see eBay Live Auction Format Being Retired at End of 2008).  The “Live Auction” format differs from eBay’s traditional business model of scheduled, “online-only” auctions, and typically (as it relates to original props, wardrobe, and memorabilia auctions from movies and television) provides collectors the ability to bid on items auctioned “live” over the Internet, in real time, in lieu of being present at the actual auction event with people bidding in person, with the auctioneer recognizing “floor” bids, telephone bids, absentee bids, and online bids.  It appears that LiveAuctioneers.com is positioning itself to absorb this business and compete in the live online auction space.
