UNSOLD: James Dean “Rebel Without A Cause” Red Jacket Fails To Sell In High Profile “Palm Beach Modern Auctions” Event

Palm Beach Modern Auctions received a lot of press in the mainstream media in the past few weeks for their red jacket attributed to the classic James Dean film, Rebel Without A Cause.  The $400,000-$600,000 pre-sale estimate would imply that the jacket must have been worn by the star during production of the film…  Perhaps the provenance supplied by the auction house was unconvincing, since it failed to sell at auction.  [Read more…]

More on the History and Development of the ‘Back to the Future 2’ Nike MAG Shoes (Videos)

Special thanks to my friend Vivek for pointing me to these three videos about the history of the now classic Nike MAG shoes worn by Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future 2. The videos talk about the genesis of the shoes as designed and made for the film, as well as highlighting the recent development, manufacture, and auction of the replica shoes being sold to benefit the Michael J. Mr. Darren Julien is the President and CEO of Julien’s Auctions.  Julien’s Auctions specializes in entertainment memorabilia and celebrity estate auctions, spanning movies, television, and popular music artists.  This weekend, Julien’s Auctions sold their first piece for a price in excess of one million dollars – one of two jackets worn by Michael Jackson in the Thriller video produced for his milestone album by the same name.

Analysis: Indiana Jones Fedora, Bullwhip, Jacket with “Lucas Film Ltd.” Certificate of Authenticity (“DNA Authentic”)

The Prop Store of London provided information today regarding an Indiana Jones costume (fedora, jacket, and bullwhip) being offered for sale in the marketplace with a “Lucas Film Ltd.” Certificate of Authenticity which appears to be a fraudulent document made using the distinct Warner Bros. “DNA Authentic”style COA as a model along with a photo of a genuine costume from the Lucasfilm archives. Indiana Jones News Features Recap: David Morgan, Bernie Pollack

There has been some great news coverage of interest to original prop collectors, prompted by the upcoming release of the new Indiana Jones film.
