A customer of Profiles in History, Dwight Manley, has this week filed a lawsuit against the auction house in Los Angeles Superior Court. Manley is suing over a costume worn by James Gandolfini in the final episode of The Sopranos, and has also named The Golden Closet as a Defendant as the company was the consignor of the item in question. His complaint alleges fraud, negligent misrepresentation, and breach of express warranty. [Read more…]
This is part of my ongoing coverage of San Diego Comic-Con 2016. This marked the third year in a row (see 2014, 2015) that HBO hosted a Game of Thrones interactive exhibit at the L Street Fine Art Gallery opposite the Omni Hotel. The Hall of Faces experience proved as popular as ever, with fans lined up one to two blocks. However, this year had far less on display in terms of original props and costumes, with just one piece of wardrobe each for Jaqen H’ghar, Arya and the Waif from Season 6. [Read more…]
Next up for ScreenBid and their official online memorabilia auctions (following auctions for Breaking Bad, Psych, and Californication) is their sale for HBO’s True Blood. ScreenBid will be selling original props and costumes and other production material from the series in an online-only auction that runs through August 20th – August 25th.
The Game of Thrones “Survive the Realm” interactive experience and exhibit was held across from the Omni Hotel in the Gaslamp District during Comic-Con this week, and featured a number of original costumes from the popular HBO cable television series based on the George R.R. Martin novels. Also featured were green screen opportunities to have animated photos taken with one of the dragons (Drogon) was well (see mine here) as a “Climbing the Wall” virtual reality experience and a photo op chance to sit in the Iron Throne. HBO is holding an online auction at The HBO Shop for a small number of lots of original production material from their Entourage cable television series, which is currently airing its final season. This week marks the first of three weeks of auctions. Lots available for sale at auction include material related to the fictional movies depicted in the series, which has aired for eight seasons and features the popular cast of characters Vincent Chase, Eric Murphy, Johnny Drama, Turtle, and Ari Gold. Critically acclaimed science fiction, fantasy, and horror writer, George Raymond Richard Martin, has reported on his website that he believed two original and autographed screenplays from the HBO series, Game of Thrones, were stolen in transit. As the author of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series of fantasy novels, upon which the Game of Thrones series were based, the production had sent the two shooting scripts (signed by writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and director Alan Taylor) to Mr. Martin to use to auction and raise money for charitable causes. When he received the parcel from the U.S. Postal Service, included was a pre-printed form letter apologizing for damage to the package and both scripts were missing. [Read more…]
