The Smithsonian Institution Launch Kickstarter Campaign to Raise $300,000 to Preserve Dorothy’s Ruby Slippers from Wizard of Oz

The Smithsonian Institution launched a new Kickstarter campaign yesterday in an effort to raise $300,000 for their preservation efforts with the Dorothy ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz that is in their collection.  After just one day, they’ve already raised over one third of their stated goal. Gilt Groupe Offers Sale of Authentic Memorabilia from Ang Lee’s ‘Life of Pi’; Proceeds Benefit the Orangutan Foundation International

The Gilt Group has again opened a unique sale of original props for charity, this time offering material from Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, which opens in theaters in the United States tomorrow.  Per the website retailer, “Lee is donating the proceeds from the props to Orangutan Foundation International (orangutan.org), after having an inspiring experience when he visited the facility while doing research for the movie”.  Of the pieces offered is the lifeboat which represents an important part of the film. Heritage Auctions Holds “Doodles for Hunger – Celebrity Art Auction”, Bidding Ends April 1st

Heritage Auction Galleries is holding a special charity auction, which benefits the St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters.  The “Doodle for Hunger” is an online-only auction of simply illustrations made by a variety of celebrities, including principals from film, television, professional sports, members of the media, journalists, political figures, scientists, chefs, talk show hosts, authors, musicians, comedians, and other famous people. Author Chuck Palahnuik’s Faux Ikea “Ying Yang” Movie Prop Table from Fight Club Donated for Charity Auction Supporting The Pixie Project

Charles “Chuck” Palahniuk, journalist and Fight Club novelist, has donated one of the original “ying yang” table set pieces that was used and featured in David Fincher’s film version of his award-winning book.  The auction for the table started on eBay today, with proceeds benefiting The Pixie Project, a non-profit organization in Portland, Oregon that provides animal adoption and other related services. Gilt Groupe Offers Sale of Authentic Memorabilia from ‘Midnight in Paris’, Net Proceeds Benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation

This morning the Gilt Group has opened its sale of original props from the Woody Allen film ‘Midnight in Paris’ on it’s website.  The site states that all net proceeds from the sale of this original memorabilia from the Academy Award nominated film will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas at Austin Raising Funds to Restore Iconic Costumes from ‘Gone With The Wind’

The Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas at Austin has announced that they are actively raising funds and soliciting donations to restore five important and iconic gowns worn by Vivian Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara in the classic, Gone with the Wind.  The Ransom Center hopes to display the costumes in 2014 “as part of a major exhibition celebrating the 75th anniversary” of the film.
