As part of the continuing coverage by the Original Prop Blog, below is the first in a series of videos showcasing material to be auctioned in the upcoming Profiles in History “Hollywood Auction 40” event scheduled for June 10-12. In this first interview with Joe Maddalena, President and CEO of Profiles, he offers his insight into the pink dress worn by Marilyn Monroe during the ‘Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” scene in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953). This gown is one of several iconic pieces that was featured on ‘The Today Show’ this morning on NBC and will be on ‘Fox and Friends’ on Fox News Channel on Saturday.

As reported on earlier in the week, Profiles in History CEO Joe Maddalena was featured on this morning’s broadcast of The Today Show – “auctioning off iconic items from famous movies” – in promotion of next month’s sale event. Profiles in History ‘Hollywood Auction 40’ High Resolution Photography: TV & Movie Prop and Costume Sale Event Image Preview
Yesterday I spent most of the day at the Profiles in History offices in Calabasas Hills, California to preview their “Hollywood Auction 40” event scheduled for June 10-12. In addition to extensive interviews with Joe Maddalena, President and CEO of the firm, I also took many photographs of the props, costumes, and other material being prepared for the auction. “Shall We Play A Game?” Original IMSAI 8080 Computer Movie Prop from WarGames to be Sold
As covered by the Original Prop Blog back in 2008 (see “WIRED WarGames Roundtable, Original IMSAI 8080 Computer”), WIRED magazine published an article about classic 80s film WarGames (1983) starring Matthew Broderick. The article included an image of the original IMSAI 8080 computer that was used in the movie, which was remarkable in that the prop was saved and preserved for over a quarter of a century. I’ve learned in recent weeks that this piece of motion picture history will soon be made available for sale, so this serves as a notice to the original prop community in advance of further details.
