As reported about a week ago, The International Make-Up Artist Trade Show was held at the Pasadena Convention Center in Los Angeles – June 21-22, 2008. Make-Up Artist Magazine and Stan Winston Studios assembled a large museum display of Stan Winston creations in tribute to the late Academy Award-winning special effects and make-up artist. The Star Wars “Where Science Meets Imagination” exhibit, last showing in Chicago (see past story), opens tomorrow and runs through August 24, 2008 at the Science Museum of Minnesota. This is the eight and final exhibit for the U.S.; it will next be moved to Australia. In all, 80 original props, costumes, and other pieces will be on display for the public. Highlights include the original 1:1 landspeeder from A New Hope, Darth Vader’s helmet, a Yoda puppet, a Chewbacca costume, Han Solo and Princess Leia costumes, scale X-Wing, Y-Wing, and Tie Fighters and one of the Millennium Falcons. The award-winning Oshkosh Public Museum in Wisconsin is holding an “Out of This World: Extraordinary Costumes from Film and Television” exhibition from February 16-May 18, 2008. This exhibition is created by the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame of Seattle, Washington. This appears similar to the exhibit reported on last year in Seattle (see “Out of this World: Extraordinary Costumes from Film and Television“).
Pieces in display include the original hat worn by the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz, a whip and jacket from Raiders of the Lost Ark, Darth Vader’s helmet and lightsaber, a jumpsuit and Proton Pack from Ghostbusters, and more. [Read more…]
