One of my all-time favorite books is The Making of Star Wars: The Definitive Story Behind the Original Film (as reviewed upon release in April 2007) by J.W. Rinzler. This Original Prop Blog coverage of the Prop Store exhibit at San Diego Comic Con concludes with Tim Lawes. The video interview series continues the exploration and discussion about some of the most important pieces on display at their booth, including material from the Alien films, Shawshank Redemption, Gladiator, The Empire Strikes Back, Clash of the Titans, Superman Returns, and more.
Jez Hill, Star Wars Helmets, special guest. This is the fourth ‘Prop Talk’ podcast, a new regular feature for the Original Prop Blog. This is an effort to use old and new technology to bring a richer and more informative and entertaining experience to the site. Jez has really provided a great service to fans with his study of helmets and masks used in the Star Wars films by researching and memorializing information on his “Star Wars Helmets” website for many years.
As has been widely publicized, “Star Wars in Concert” is currently touring the United States, and I was fortunate to have attended one of the shows in California. During my trip to Burbank this past Tuesday, I made time for a short visit to meet with Brandon Alinger of the Prop Store of London at their Los Angeles facility. Jez at StarWarsHelmets.com has produced the third in his series of excellent “video reviews”, this one featuring an original AT-AT Driver helmet from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, along with the history and development of this prop, including it’s prior use as a Tie Fighter Pilot helmet in Star Wars: A New Hope.
Profiles in History’s “Hollywood Auction 33” was held today, which offered a number of original movie and television props, costumes, and other memorabilia. The auction was held on site at the Profiles in History offices in Calabasas Hills, with off-site bidding available over the Internet via eBay Live Auctions and LiveAuctioneers, as well as direct via mail, fax, and by phone.
