Los Angeles based auction house Nate D Sanders is this month offering for sale an extraordinary number of Academy Awards as part of their monthly auction. The rare and highly coveted Oscar statue awards (in part due to the fact that AMPAS retain right of first refusal to buy back those awarded after 1950 – see past related story), seldom have come up for auction and it is very unusual to see so many offered in a single sale. The Profiles in History ‘Icons of Hollywood Auction’ catalog does away with the traditional “Hollywood Auction” numbering format (which ended with 44?), and is now available as a free PDF download on their official site, with hardcopies available for purchase as well. The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) will be presenting their “19th Annual Art of Motion Picture Costume Design” annual costume exhibit, featuring more than 100 original costumes from more than 20 films released in 2010, including pieces from Shutter Island designed by Sandy Powell, Alice in Wonderland by designer Colleen Atwood, and The Wolfman by designer Milena Canonero.
