As mentioned in past articles, the NRA’s National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Virginia has been hosting a “Hollywood Guns” exhibit this year, and now a 46-page catalog of the pieces on display has been made available. Star Wars Celebration V, the “official Lucasfilm event celebrating all things Star Wars, produced by fans for fans” has been in full swing this week. While not personally in attendance, I thought I would publish a report on highlights of interest to original prop collectors, notably Lucasfilm announcing the release of the all six Star Wars films on Blu-Ray disc next year (per an interview with the New York Times), which will include never before seen footage, including a scene with Luke finishing the construction of his lightsaber in a cave on Tatooine from Return of the Jedi. The Golden Closet has yesterday announced the sale of original prop blank fire and non-firing weapons used in Salt, starring Angelina Jolie as Evelyn Salt. In addition to Certificate of Authenticity from The Golden Closet are copies of the original rental agreements from the armorer who worked on the production and call sheets from related scenes. The Original Prop Blog interviewed Brandon Alinger of Prop Store at San Diego Comic Con last week. This video feature includes a discussion about some of the most important pieces on display at their booth, including an original bullwhip used by Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the grail diary used in Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, and an original Biker Scout Helmet from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Brandon also demonstrates the use of an iPad to make an interactive interface to explore the pages within the grail diary.
