Star Wars Celebration V, the “official Lucasfilm event celebrating all things Star Wars, produced by fans for fans” has been in full swing this week. While not personally in attendance, I thought I would publish a report on highlights of interest to original prop collectors, notably Lucasfilm announcing the release of the all six Star Wars films on Blu-Ray disc next year (per an interview with the New York Times), which will include never before seen footage, including a scene with Luke finishing the construction of his lightsaber in a cave on Tatooine from Return of the Jedi. Guernsey’s made a splash in the entertainment memorabilia field in March 2008 with their auction event comprising the sale of “The Pugliese Collection“, which garnered significant mainstream media coverage (including The Today Show) and some very impressive prices realized on certain lots. The Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas at Austin has announced that they are actively raising funds and soliciting donations to restore five important and iconic gowns worn by Vivian Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara in the classic, Gone with the Wind. The Ransom Center hopes to display the costumes in 2014 “as part of a major exhibition celebrating the 75th anniversary” of the film. [Read more…]
