AP: Fraud Trial Features Famous Firearms

While this news story from the Associated Press (LINK) does not directly involve original props or original prop collecting, it is of interest and the dynamics in play could have implications for the hobby, as related to market value appraisals, specialist authorities, brokering, and fraud. I plan to follow this story to report on the proceedings and outcome. [Read more…]

Christopher Lee’s Dracula Cape Find: Consigned with Heritage?

I came across what appears to be a press release included in a discussion on the Classic Horror Film Board, in the topic “Jack Pierce Scrapbook pages“. I have not been able to find the release anywhere else on the web to verify it, including a search of the official press releases found at HA.com.

Interestingly, if accurate and if not retracted, it would seem the Christopher Lee Dracula cape claimed to have recently been discovered by Angels as reported by the BBC just a few weeks ago (see article, BBC News: “Lee’s Dracula Cape Found in Store”) has been consigned with Heritage Auction Galleries for an event in April: [Read more…]

BBC News: “Lee’s Dracula Cape Found in Store”

The following story was reported by BBC News (LINK), wherein it is claimed that Christopher Lee’s cape from Dracula (1958) was found in a London store. I’d be interested in learning the details of how Angles authenticated it. Going by the story, Lee verifying it 50 years later sounds implausible on the face of it, but maybe there are identifying marks/labels to supplement this examination. [Read more…]

News Story Flashback: “Rummaging for a Piece of Tim Burton”

This is an article from 2005, but interesting none the less. The original article can still be found at the New York Times website.

There was a related topic on the Movie Prop Forum at the time, “Tim Burton’s Prop Collection“.

It is an interesting example of an event in which original props/artifacts are released into the open marketplace and how that news travels and things play out. [Read more…]
