IfOnly & Lucasfilm Auction Off Screen-Used Star Wars Stormtrooper Helmets for Charity

IfOnly, the “marketplace for incredible experiences… that benefit worthy causes around the world” has put up quite an interesting set of auctions for fans of the newest Star Wars trilogy put out by Disney.  It’s very rare for any “screen-used” helmets from any Star Wars film to be released officially via LucasFilm, and this month with IfOnly there is not just one but two “screen-used First Order stormtrooper helmets from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi”.  Also up for sale is a Porg “limited-edition creature artist’s maquette”.  Proceeds from these auctions ending on February 22nd benefit Tipping Point’s Emergency Relief Fund.  Note that the terms explain that these pieces of memorabilia can never be resold by the winning bidders. Auction Buyer Files Lawsuit Against Profiles in History Over Tony Soprano Costume from Final Episode of “The Sopranos”

A customer of Profiles in History, Dwight Manley, has this week filed a lawsuit against the auction house in Los Angeles Superior Court.  Manley is suing over a costume worn by James Gandolfini in the final episode of The Sopranos, and has also named The Golden Closet as a Defendant as the company was the consignor of the item in question.  His complaint alleges fraud, negligent misrepresentation, and breach of express warranty.  [Read more…]

Bonhams Breaks Auction Records with $5.375 Million for “Robby the Robot” Movie Prop From “Forbidden Planet”

Bonhams today sold a collection of movie props from the 1956 science fiction classic film “Forbidden Planet”, with “Robby the Robot” as the centerpiece”, for an astounding $5.375 million dollars (including buyer premium).  Part of their “TCM Presents… Out of This World! auction” in New York, the auction house has declared it is a world record as “the most valuable movie prop ever sold at auction”. WITHDRAWN: Bonhams Pulls “A Luke Skywalker Lightsaber used in Return of the Jedi” from “TCM Presents… Out Of This World!” Auction

Last week The Original Prop Blog published an article about the “A Luke Skywalker Lightsaber used in Return of the Jedi” prop up for public auction in their current “TCM Presents … Out of This World!” event scheduled to conclude on November 21st.  The description in the online catalog had been edited to remove the (vague) details about the provenance, and the piece in question seems to match a “Return of the Jedi” lightsaber prop that I wrote about in 2013 that was offered for sale on eBay and seemed to have a connection with Elstree Props.  Today, the lot is marked as “WITHDRAWN” on the item page.
