eBay Auction: “Jurassic Park Cryocan SCREEN-USED PROP Original COA” for $5,000 is “NOT A REPLICA” [UPDATE: Shades of Land Shark?]

May 3, 2012 By Jason DeBord

eBay Auction: “Jurassic Park Cryocan SCREEN-USED PROP Original COA” for ,000 is “NOT A REPLICA” [UPDATE: Shades of Land Shark?] | eBay Auction vs YourProps Replica Jurassic Park Cryocan Screen Used Prop Original Universal COA x380

This is an update to the article published about 24 hours ago (see “eBay Auction: “Jurassic Park Cryocan SCREEN-USED PROP Original COA” for $5,000 is “NOT A REPLICA”“), in which an eBay dealer, ridaeb, offered for public sale a “Jurassic Park Cryocan SCREEN-USED PROP Original” for $5,000…  using the same photo of a prop that is clearly identified as a fan made replica/reproduction on another site, YourProps.  Well, the auction was canceled/withdrawn (as well as all evidence of it, apart from my archive in the prior article).  Then, earlier today, it was relisted at the same price, with the same description, with another photo taken from YourProps.  That was canceled/withdrawn… and it appears yet again with a third photo from the website Jurassic Park Terror – and the photo depicts… another Rylo-made replica prop.

In addition to all of this, a friend of the Original Prop Blog corresponded with the eBay seller today, only to share with me some pretty ridiculous claims, as well as an image of the supposed Universal Studios Certificate of Authenticity (COA)…

In any event, sans anyone being defrauded of thousands of dollars, it all kind of reminds me of the classic “Land Shark” Saturday Night Live skit (especially since both are Steven Spielberg properties).

Below is an archive of eBay listing “Jurassic Park Cryocan SCREEN-USED PROP Original COA” Version 2.0 (since deleted from eBay; it was Item #320899745183):

Below is a YourProps listing with the same photo (the same replica listing archived yesterday, only this time with the second of two photos):

Below is an archive of eBay listing “Jurassic Park Cryocan SCREEN-USED PROP Original COA” Version 3.0 (currently live on eBay as Item #320899810195, though given the pattern, that is not likely to be the case for long):

Below is an archive of a discussion on the Jurassic Park Terror discussion forum (see “JP Cryocan **FOR SALE**” – see 4th image down within inset):

Below is an image of the Certificate of Authenticity sent to a friend via a public link to the image live on the web, located HERE:

In fact, even the seal is Photoshopped onto the Certificate of Authenticity, as I found the *exact* same image via a simple Google search (see homeschs.tripod.com/seals.htm):

eBay Auction: “Jurassic Park Cryocan SCREEN-USED PROP Original COA” for ,000 is “NOT A REPLICA” [UPDATE: Shades of Land Shark?] | Official Gold Seal Replica Certificate of Authenticity Match x600

Below is a comparison between the gold seal on the “Universal Studios” COA and the sample gold seal image as shown on the vendor’s website:

If you use Photoshop to blow up both images of the gold seal from the two different sources, you will see that they match exactly, pixel for pixel (and you can even see a square outline within the “Universal Studios” COA around the gold seal that is pinker in hue than the rest of the COA.

Just before publishing this, I see that there is an ongoing topic about this on the Replica Prop Forum as well – “Replica Cryocan being sold as a Screen Used Prop?” – with the same findings.
