And Now For Something Completely Different… The England Journal

December 15, 2010 By Jason DeBord

This will be the first in a series of uncharacteristically informal and personal articles to close out 2010.  Apologies for the lack of new articles over the past week – I have been busy preparing for a trip to England, and am publishing this first article via layover at an airport, with flight departing to London.  I will be publishing (hopefully) frequent updates about my journey over the next week, in which I will be meeting up with some of my fellow prop collecting enthusiasts, visiting some prop-related attractions, and will be attending two charity concerts featuring performances by Coldplay, benefiting Crisis.

I have never been to England, so I’m tremendously excited about the trip and exploring London and the rest of the country.

I will be spending part of the trip traveling with good friend, prop collector, and Coldplay fan as well as two other Coldplayers with whom we will be attending the events.  The first “hidden gig” concert will be in Liverpool and the second will be in Newcastle.  Proceeds from both events will benefit Crisis, and ticket sales raised over £238,645.

I am really looking forward to the trip, exploring England, meeting up with friends in the hobby, and attending the shows.

As a general programming note, my schedule and timing did not allow for me to do my usual on-site Profiles in History auction preview with photos, videos, and interviews.  As illustrated by the size of their catalog and airing of their reality television series, this is a big auction for Profiles in History.  Consequently, there is an abundance of self promotion and mainstream media coverage of the event, so information about the auction can be found via alternate venues.  As I will be traveling, it is likely I will not publish my traditional reactions to the sale (at least not timely); if this is the case, it will follow upon my return or as part of my 2010 In Review in a few weeks.  Of primary interest to me is seeing if/how the hobby can absorb so much material in one sale, and how it will impact prices realized (if at all).

Looking forward to visiting with a number of friends in the hobby in the UK…
