Original ‘Mad Men’ TV Props & Costumes Part of Charity Auction Benefiting “City of Hope”

Original props, costumes, furniture, and walk on roles are currently being sold in a charity auction hosted by eBay, with proceeds benefiting “City of Hope”.  This is touted as the first official charity auction for the Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning cable series. [Read more…]

Star Wars Celebration V Highlights – Lucasfilm Reveals Return of the Jedi “Cave” Lightsaber Construction Scene; Prop Store Exhibit

Star Wars Celebration V, the “official Lucasfilm event celebrating all things Star Wars, produced by fans for fans” has been in full swing this week.  While not personally in attendance, I thought I would publish a report on highlights of interest to original prop collectors, notably Lucasfilm announcing the release of the all six Star Wars films on Blu-Ray disc next year (per an interview with the New York Times), which will include never before seen footage, including a scene with Luke finishing the construction of his lightsaber in a cave on Tatooine from Return of the Jedi. The existence of such a scene has long been a matter of debate among Star Wars fans. [Read more…]

Profiles in History LOST TV Prop, Costume, and Memorabilia Auction Event Showcased on CNN

The Profiles in History LOST auction, to be held later this month on August 21st-22nd in Santa Monica, was featured in a segment on CNN today.  This illustrates significant mainstream media interest in the event involving the sale of original props, costumes, and other material direct from ABC Studios from all six seasons of the popular television series. Guernsey’s Announces New Entertainment, Sports, Historical Material Auction Event for September in New York City: “ICONIC”

Guernsey’s made a splash in the entertainment memorabilia field in March 2008 with their auction event comprising the sale of “The Pugliese Collection“, which garnered significant mainstream media coverage (including The Today Show) and some very impressive prices realized on certain lots.   This week Guernsey’s has announced two auctions for late September, one of which is of interest to original film and television prop, costume, and memorabilia collectors. Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas at Austin Raising Funds to Restore Iconic Costumes from ‘Gone With The Wind’

The Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas at Austin has announced that they are actively raising funds and soliciting donations to restore five important and iconic gowns worn by Vivian Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara in the classic, Gone with the Wind.  The Ransom Center hopes to display the costumes in 2014 “as part of a major exhibition celebrating the 75th anniversary” of the film. Bonhams “Pioneers of Popular Culture” Auction Event Offers Two Important Costumes from ‘Batman’ & ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’

Bonhams will be holding their “Pioneers of Popular Culture” event (Sale 18524) on August 15th at the inaugural Goodwood Vintage Festival in the UK.   Though original props and costumes are nearly non-existent among the 273 lots in the auction, the two key pieces present are important and impressive: a three-piece suit worn by Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton’s Batman (Lot 192) and an ape costume from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey (Lot 193).
