Cameo Fine Art Auctioneers Holds ‘The Angels Film Costume Auction’ May 23rd in the United Kingdom

May 22, 2010 By Jason DeBord

This is late notice for an upcoming auction, as it is tomorrow.  I had not heard of it until I received a tip from a reader today.  Cameo Fine Art Auctioneers in Berkshire, UK will be holding their “The Angels Film Costume Auction” Sunday, May 23rd.

Included in the auction are wardrobe pieces identified by the famous costumiers as made for Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Star Wars A New Hope, the Fifth Element, Excalibur, Titanic, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lawrence of Arabia, The Dirty Dozen, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,  Doctor Who, multiple James Bond films and more.

Full details can be found at the Cameo Fine Art Auctioneers website, www.cameo-auctioneers.co.uk:

As noted, there is a large selection of costume pieces from a wide variety of movies and television programs.  Some of the more interesting lots include:

  • Lot 36 – King Lear 1983. An elaborate crown used by Laurence Olivier as King Lear
  • Lot 37 – Henry V 1989. An elaborate crown based on the fleur de lys design associated with royalty used by Emma Thompson as Katherine
  • Lot 38 – Henry V 1989. An elaborate crown based on the fleur de leys design associated with royalty used by Kenneth Brannagh as Henry V
  • Lot 46 – Titanic 1997. An elaborate cross and chain worn by Kathy Bates as Molly Brown
  • Lot 58 – The Dirty Dozen 1967. Number Two US Uniform Jacket used by Lee Marvin as Major Reisman. This Jacket can be distinctly seen in many scenes when Reisman is being interviewed and briefed by the top brass.
  • Lot 59 – The Dirty Dozen 1967. German Uniform Jacketused by Lee Marvin as Major Reisman. This Jacket can be distinctly seen when Reisman and the Dirty Dozen are on their mission infiltrating the German High Command Chateau.

  • Lot 91 – Lawrence of Arabia 1962. A Black Arabian Robe worn by Omar Shariff used under the Arabian cape. This item was used in the scenes toward the end of the film for the interior sequence between Peter O’Toole, Omar Shariff and Anthony Quinn. The pattern is different to the main garment used throughout the film, it is likely that the exterior sequences and interior sequences had slightly different costume due to the logistics of filming in the desert and at the studios in England.
  • Lot 92 – Raiders of the Lost Ark 1981. A German Military Desert Shirt with insignia and lapel officer motifs. Used in the finale of the film when Indy and Marion are taken to the ritual ceremony to open the Ark.
