Auction Productions “Firearms and Old West Auction & Show” in Deadwood

Auction Productions is managing an auction event August 16-17 in Deadwood, South Dakota.  Included in this auction as a few lots attributed to use in film and television, including a few pieces previously sold at the Stembridge Collection auction managed by Little John’s Auction Service.

Below are the movie and television-related highlights:

Lot 106a Pair of 1851 Navy reproductions converted to 38 blanks. Nickeled with simulated ivory and used in the movie “Young Guns.” Serial numbers 87771 and 30391, these were originally in the Stembridge Arsenal Collection. Missing 1 grip.

Lot 807 M1 rifle movie prop gun used in MGM’s 1952 ‘Carbine Williams’ starring Jimmy Stewart as the real life character David Marshall Williams (1900-1975). Williams was convicted of bootlegging and during a raid, he shot and killed a deputy sheriff. During his time behind bars, he was allowed access to the prison machine shop where he invented the M1 Carbine. Upon his early pardoned release, Carbine Williams worked with Winchester in patenting the short stroke piston and floating chamber for small arms.
The rifle is cased in shadow box and the stock is signed by Carbine Williams, who also worked with MGM in the production of the movie. A classic piece of Hollywood memorabilia.

Lot 823a Pair of consecutively numbered Colt Single Action sn 33376SA and 33377SA .45 cal revolvers with 51/2″ barrels in nickel finish and carved longhorn ivory grips. Includes quality hand tooled double rig holster by Wickett and Craig sporting non firing silver dummy rounds. The guns were originally owned by Hollywood stuntman and actor Monty Laird who did work for various movies including “Chisolm”, “The Day They Hanged Kid Curry”, and “Alias Smith and Jones”. Ownership then went to Tom Wents also a Hollywood stuntman, fast draw shooter and trick shot artist. It was these guns Tom Wentz used in an earlier Polaroid commercial. It was also Wentz who cracked the grip on sn 33376SA when it slipped out of a gun rag. Now owned and consigned by world fast draw record holder Brad Hemmah of Deadwood South Dakota, Brad has appeared on ABC, NBC, CBS, and even on the Live with Regis and Kathy Lee show for his gun handling expertise.

Lot 827a Colt Frontier Six Shooter 44/40 cal SN 80606 4 3/4″ barrel, shipped from factory August 25th 1882 to Hartley & Graham, N.Y. with a 50 gun shipment, fully and finely scroll engraved in New York. Style in superb condition with sound action and mint bore, acid etched barrel, former property of western movie star Lash La Rue with notarized letter stating “Enjoy My Colt, it has my Trademark Stag Grips” singed Lash La Rue along with full size lobby poster for “Frontier Phantom” starring La Rue and Fuzzy St. John.

Lot 844 Colt Official Police Pair .38cal SN 868474/868475 consecutive numbered pair, blue finish with 6’barrels, factory medallion hand checkered walnut grips, back straps inscribed “Dale Robertson” in gold by master engraver Ben Lane. This pair are rare and in near mint condition with photo of movie star owner Dale Robertson inscribed by him ” Enjoying my Colts”and notarized letter stating that they were his revolvers. Mr. Robertson was a 40’s-70’s movie and TV star and is well remembered for “Iron Horse” TV series.

Lot 1128 Winchester Model 92 .45 cal. SN 805252 24″ barrel, lever action rifle, brass plate receiver with polished steel barrel and components. Wood stock, fore arm removed and brass piece welded on receiver to make the gun pass for a Henry model. Tang veneer, rear sight , no front sight, strong action, fair bore. This rifle has been used in several movies including “Cheyenne Autumn”, John Ford’s last movie. Gilbert Roland, Sal Mineo and Ricardo Montalban also used it in the picture. Own a piece of Hollywood history with this custom converted Winchester. From the famous Hollywood prop house Stembridge Arms Collection.
