“Global Antiques” Memorabilia Listings Pulled From eBay

May 29, 2008 By Jason DeBord

As a follow-up to recent articles (see sub-category Global Antiques), it seems that there are no current offerings of Global Antiques consigned/authenticated Entertainment & Historical Memorabilia on eBay at present, from either Auction Depot LA (auctiondepotla1) or Auction Shop USA (auctionshopusa).

When I began publishing articles looking into the provenance and authenticity of these pieces – characterized as antiques and/or movie props used in film and television or owned by Hollywood icons/celebrities and notable and famous public figures – Auction Depot LA generally had as many as 100-200 such auctions live on eBay for bidding at any given time. As a point of reference, with the two week study of public sales analyzed in another article (see “Auction Depot L.A. & Global Antiques Entertainment Memorabilia – Two Weeks of eBay Listing/Sales Activity“), there were 361 eBay listings that ended within that 14-day period.

As it stands today, Auction Depot LA has not listed a new Global Antiques item in eBay’s “Entertainment Memorabilia” category since May 17, 2008 (which ended May 24, 2008).

While Auction Shop USA sells the same kinds of pieces, also with Global Antiques Certificates of Authenticity, I have observed it to be of a substantially lower volume. Having said that, this morning there were 7 such items listed on eBay in “Entertainment Memorabilia” and “Historical Memorabilia” categories, with several days remaining in the auction, and today all 7 Global Antiques auctions were canceled early by the seller, pulling the items for the following stated reason in the listing:

The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale.

Here is a list of the eBay listings in which the seller – Auction Shop USA – ended the auctions early, with no winning bidder (canceling bids if necessary):

Original LORD OF THE RINGS Movie Film Prop LOTR NR!! (eBay Item #350063644105)

Original AL CAPONE Estate Owned Prop Memorabilia NR! (eBay Item #350063646737)

Original JOHN WAYNE Used Owned Estate Memorabilia Prop (eBay Item #350063646776)

Original LORD OF THE RINGS Movie Film Prop LOTR NR!! (eBay Item #350063646768)

Original JOHN WAYNE Used Owned Estate Memorabilia NR! (eBay Item number #350063649337)

Original JOHN WAYNE Used Owned Estate Memorabilia NR! (eBay Item number #350063646787)

Original MARK TWAIN Used Owned Estate Memorabilia NR!! (eBay Item number #350064606387)

There are still two items listed by Auction Shop USA, in the “Entertainment Memorabilia” category, but these items do not have Global Antiques COAs.

As seen above, one of the canceled listings was the “Original LORD OF THE RINGS Movie Film Prop” – one of the two items in which matching items were found new at the retail store “Big Lots!”, as featured in yesterday’s article (see “Auction Depot LA, Auction Shop USA, Global Antiques: The Lord of the Rings and “Big Lots!”“).

With this item, one bid was canceled prior to ending the auction early:

I will continue to monitor and make note of any future listings from these two eBay sellers should they publicly offer any additional pieces with Global Antiques Certificates of Authenticity.
