Though the Heritage auction was held last week, I just now looked to see the results of the Statue of Liberty head attributed to Planet of the Apes that was one of the Featured Items (which was the cover specimen of Profiles in History’s auction this past August, and went unsold – see prior article, “Heritage Music & Entertainment Memorabilia Auction – October 6-7, 2007“).
Performing searches on HA.com produced no results, though it is cached by Google HERE as Lot 21066.
However, I did register for the auction prior to the event, and went back to review the confirmation e-mail, and see that it lists changes to the original catalog. One of the changes was:
Lot 21066 has been removed.
As referenced in my pre-auction article, there was a topic questioning the Statue of Liberty prop on the Movie Prop Forum (see PIH Auction whatsit?). There was since another related discussion, “PROP COLLECTORS!, Important!“.
It would be interesting to learn Heritage’s official reasoning for removing the piece from the auction.
