As Worn In (aswornin.com) Site is Live

September 12, 2007 By Jason DeBord

A new original prop/wardrobe dealer has arrived on the scene, As Worn In (aswornin.com).

As Worn In Site

Per the “About Us” link on their site:

AsWornIn was set up to allow anyone to purchase costumes worn in feature films, TV programmes and Theatre productions. The website is also selling authentic costumes from different fashion periods of the twentieth century. With an extensive selection of military and uniform costumes.

AsWornIn locates all its stock from Angels Costumiers . Angels has the widest range of quality costumes and uniforms in the world, with over 2 million costumes on 5½ miles of hanging rails.

Angels Warehouse

Angels began in 1840 when Morris Angel founded the limited company that we know today (although roots of our company go much further back!). Morris started dealing in second-hand clothing and tailors samples from Saville Row. The shop became popular with actors, who at that time had to purchase their own costume for performances. Eventually the actors began to request the loan of costumes for the length of the play and this is where costume rental was born. Angels Fancy Dress is still based in Angels old shop in Shaftesbury Avenue. Angel is proud to have worked on 27 productions that have won Oscars for Best Costume Design – from Henry V to Dr Zhivago, Star Wars to Marie Antoinette.

Today Angels still operates as the worlds leading provider of costumes to the TV, Film and Theatre industry. Angels also has a Fancy Dress Shop on Shaftesbury Avenue in London and a Fancy Dress Website, www.fancydress.com

Angels is not just a trading name for the business, it remains a family company, still under the ownership of the Angel family with the 5th generation running the company and three members of the 6th generation also working in the company.

Interestingly, Bonham’s “Angels 2” live auction event, previously reported on (with link, now dead) a month ago today as Sale 15765 (see Upcoming Auction Event Calendar) is now gone.

It will be interesting to see what pieces are offered through this website in the future.
