Original Nightmare on Elm Street Part 5 Freddy Gloves

June 2, 2007 By Jason DeBord

There has been a long-running topic on the Movie Prop Forum in regards to the Freddy gloves used in Nightmare on Elm Street 5, and the problems authenticating some of these same pieces.

Thanks to the extensive research of “Hollywood at Home” collector Mario (with information and comments from the MPF shared in part here with his permission), it seems that there are many more gloves in the marketplace characterized as “original” than were made for the film. More, there is a specific “tell” (what Mario calls a “sign”) with each authentic, hero glove that Mario has examined, and he has offered to confirm if a piece has such a mark if contacted privately with photos of the piece in question (to preserve the information).

Of particular note is the fact that someone who did work on the film produces reproductions of these gloves, which do differ from the originals in some ways, and are available for purchase on his website:
www.davidmillercreations.com

These replica gloves are offered for $300 each plus shipping and handling.

These reproductions include a COA, sample found HERE, that reads:

This officially certifies that this _____________ is an original article from the motion picture _________________ and was manufactured by David Miller Creations during it’s production.

Note it certifies these “reproductions” as “original”.

Mario notes in the Movie Prop Forum topic, Nightmare on Elm Street – Part 5 Glove:

Also the glove on www.Starwares.com is such a glove. Marcia sent me detail pictures of her glove and a scan of the COA (marked as #2). Surprise surprise.. it’s a David Miller one.

This topic is raised today, in that there is a Nightmare on Elm Street 5 glove on eBay, listed with a StarWares COA. Given the number of these reproductions in the marketplace, I would encourage any interested parties to get in touch with Mario for guidance on researching the authenticity of any such pieces, as well as read the Movie Prop Forum topic, Nightmare on Elm Street – Part 5 Glove.

The current eBay auction is entitled, “Screen Used prop Nightmare Elm Steet Freddy Razor Glove,” eBay Item #250123978172.

The starting bid is $7,000.00 and the Buy It Now price is $10,000.00.

This is also being offered and marketed by history-cellar, the same seller that offered the “Screen Used” Hannibal Lecter Mask, recently discussed on the OPB, that was ended early.
