In April, the “Planet of the Apes” Statue of Liberty prop that has long been the focus of an ongoing investigation by the Original Prop Blog was determined to have in fact been made for and used in the 2004 Steven Spielberg film The Terminal starring Tom Hanks – not the 1968 science fiction classic Planet of the Apes. An industry professional who personally inspected the Les Hemstock “Planet of the Apes” Statue of Liberty prop at the “The Hollywood Collectors & Celebrities Show” convention has come forward with information and evidence that it was actually custom designed and sculpted for the film, The Terminal (2004), which would confirm that it has absolutely no connection whatsoever with Planet of the Apes.

A Statue of Liberty prop head owned by Les Hemstock, claimed to have been used in the filming of Planet of the Apes (1968), is now being advertised in conjunction with “The Hollywood Collectors & Celebrities Show” in April featuring “for a fee” photo opportunities with Linda Harrison and Felix Silla. Les Hemstock sold on eBay yesterday via a “Buy It Now Auction” using his kcotsmeh account a “MOVIE USED” Hogwarts envelope from one of the Harry Potter films, along with a unique “WARNER BROTHERS CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY”. Neither the prop nor the provenance appear to match other examples found in the marketplace. Read more

This is an follow-up to recent articles, which reviewed, in part, a bamboo cane attributed to use by Charlie Chaplin, which was part of an auction event by Signature House (on eBay and their own website) in their Auction XXXV – Autographs & Memorabilia Auction.
