eBay Auction: “Jurassic Park Cryocan SCREEN-USED PROP Original COA” for $5,000 is “NOT A REPLICA” [UPDATE: Shades of Land Shark?]
May 3, 2012 by Jason DeBord · Leave a Comment
This is an update to the article published about 24 hours ago (see “eBay Auction: “Jurassic Park Cryocan SCREEN-USED PROP Original COA” for $5,000 is “NOT A REPLICA”“), in which an eBay dealer, ridaeb, offered for public sale a “Jurassic Park Cryocan SCREEN-USED PROP Original” for $5,000… using the same photo of a prop that is clearly identified as a fan made replica/reproduction on another site, YourProps. Well, the auction was canceled/withdrawn (as well as all evidence of it, apart from my archive in the prior article). Then, earlier today, it was relisted at the same price, with the same description, with another photo taken from YourProps. That was canceled/withdrawn… and it appears yet again with a third photo from the website Jurassic Park Terror – and the photo depicts… another Rylo-made replica prop. Read more
eBay Auction: “Jurassic Park Cryocan SCREEN-USED PROP Original COA” for $5,000 is “NOT A REPLICA”

A friend of mine last night pointed me to an eBay auction, that is much like many of listings in the “Entertainment Memorabilia > Movie Memorabilia > Props > Originals” category on eBay… it features claims of an original prop, and absolutely nothing is done to demonstrate it as such and validate the marketing claims. In addition with this one – a “Jurassic Park Cryocan SCREEN-USED PROP Original”, offered for sale by ridaeb, this “original” prop offered for sale to the public for $5,000… uses the same photo of a prop that is clearly identified as a fan made replica/reproduction on another site (and the eBay version of the photo has the watermark seen on YourProps cropped out). Donnie Darko “Frank” Bunny Mask on eBay is NOT the Mask Seen in 2008 Original Prop Blog James Duval Interview
June 9, 2011 by Jason DeBord · 1 Comment
A reader directed my attention to an active eBay auction listing in which the the description can lead one to believe that the Donnie Darko “Frank” bunny mask for public sale is the same “one of a kind” mask that was seen in an interview conducted by the Original Prop Blog with actor James Duval at Comic Con International in July 2008. Based on my review of the photos included in the eBay auction listings, this is not the same mask. The auction description states: “The mask was gifted to me by actor James Duval, who played the role of ‘Frank’.” The following sentence states: “Please see the youtube video with James talking about the mask below.” Read more
Original Nightmare on Elm Street Part 5 “Freddy” Gloves Update
May 13, 2011 by Jason DeBord · 1 Comment
Back in June 2007, I published an article about Nightmare on Elm Street Part 5 “Freddy” gloves in the marketplace, and highlighted that reproductions (marketed as replicas) were being crafted by Mr. David B. Miller (see Original Nightmare on Elm Street Part 5 Freddy Gloves). Mr. Miller was kind enough to share supplemental information in his Reader Comment to the original article (see Update). I stumbled across a relevant discussion this week on a forum called Springwood Slasher with members raising concerns about a “Freddy” glove listed for public sale on eBay (see Is this really the screen used glove?). In discussing with other hobbyists and horror prop expert Mario Kirner, Mario shared an interesting observation based on a review of his archive of images of past examples of this specific prop offered for sale in the public marketplace. Thanks to input from readers and friends of the OPB, I have more information to share regarding the article published last night about the “Padmé” costume that appears to have been made for and used in the BBC televsion series, French & Saunders, not the film at the source of their parody, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Padmé Costume with BBC Wardrobe Tag – “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace” or “French & Saunders”? (Rebelscum Story/Discussion)
February 27, 2011 by Jason DeBord · 1 Comment
A few days ago, the popular Star Wars fan site Rebelscum published an “eBay Today Express” article about a costume attributed to use by Natalie Portman as Padmé in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999), and subsequently posted a retraction based on further research. Per the article, it appeared to match a costume worn on the BBC series, French & Saunders in a parody Christmas 1999 episode titled “The Phantom Millennium”. Read more
