Prop Store Restoration of Original Nostromo Prop Model from Ridely Scott’s “Alien” (Video Part 3)

The 7 foot model of the Nostromo ship featured in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic, Alien, has been the focus of a restoration project by The Prop Store of London. Suffering decades of damage from poor conditions of improper outdoor storage, the piece has required extensive cosmetic restoration as part of its ongoing preservation.

Superman Costume Collection Pulled From Upcoming ‘Morphy Auctions’ Sale Event

Earlier this month, Morphy Auctions listed a large collection of more than a dozen Superman-related principal costume and wardrobe pieces in their online catalog for their late February 2010 sale event. Coldplay “End of Decade Clearout Sale” Memorabilia Auction Raises Over $400,000 for Charity; eBay Auction Results

As reported two weeks ago, Grammy Award-winning rock band Coldplay offered memorabilia for auction for their “End of Decade Clearout Sale”, with auctions having ended Monday through today, New Year’s Eve. Christie’s, CBS, Paramount Prevail in ‘Star Trek’ Memorabilia Auction Lawsuit

Two years after making the rounds as a lead story in the mainstream media, the Associated Press today reports that the Supreme Court of New York’s Appellate Division ruled that a Star Trek fan does not deserve $7 million dollars in damages as a result being displeased with one of the three items won at the “40 Years of Star Trek” auction held by Christie’s. This is another update to the articles published this week which articulated some concerns over the authenticity of slates and clapperboards circulating in the marketplace. In the original article, I speculated that what is merely a black dot on the collector-owned Quantum of Solace clapperboards in the marketplace appeared to be a logo of some sort on those clapperboards photographed on set in the “Bond of Set” book for the film. I had an opportunity last week to visit the touring “Out of this World: Extraordinary Costumes from Film and Television” exhibit, which opened at the California Museum on October 3rd. As has been reported in the past, this traveling exhibition includes original props and costumes associated with Paul Allen (co-founder of Microsoft) and Science Fiction Museum in Seattle, Washington.

I had an opportunity this week to visit the touring “Out of this World: Extraordinary Costumes from Film and Television” exhibit, which opened at the California Museum on October 3rd. As has been reported in the past, this traveling exhibition includes original props and costumes associated with Paul Allen (co-founder of Microsoft) and Science Fiction Museum in Seattle, Washington. I was fortunate to have had an opportunity in 1995 to see a very special exhibit of original props, costumes, models, and other assets from Star Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Entitled “The Art of Star Wars”, the pieces were provided by Lucasfilm and the event was hosted by the Center for the Arts in Yerba Buena Gardens, San Francisco. Read more

The latest double issue of Entertainment Weekly (#1069/1070 – October 9, 2009) has a cover feature entitled “Stars on the Set” which includes behind the scenes coverage of a number of current productions in movies and television. One of the more interesting sections is about AMC’s Emmy Award-winning “Mad Men” series, with a focus on props used on the show. Read more
20th Century Props Liquidation Continues; Prop Rental Business Listed on eBay for $1.5 Million Dollars

Liquidation of assets following the much publicized closure of 20th Century Props continues, following a number of auctions held by Great American Group and now, Super Auctions. The business also has a standing eBay listing for $1.5 million dollars for the remaining assets and rights to the business itself. All is marketed as building toward a “Special Auction” on October 17-18th. Read more

Disney announced today that it is in the process of buying Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion dollars in cash and stock. This acquisition will include ownership over Marvel’s thousands of characters as well as Marvel Studios, which is responsible for film franchises such as Iron Man, The Avengers, Thor, and Captain America.
