Bukowskis in Sweden to Hold Auction of Memorabilia from Sven Nykvist on August 31st

Personal property and memorabilia owned by Academy Award-winning Swedish cinematographer Sven Nykvist will be auctioned by Bukowskis on August 31st.   The late Nykvist passed away in 2006, and is well known for his work with Ingmar Bergman, though he worked on over 120 films. Read more

Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas at Austin Raising Funds to Restore Iconic Costumes from ‘Gone With The Wind’

The Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas at Austin has announced that they are actively raising funds and soliciting donations to restore five important and iconic gowns worn by Vivian Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara in the classic, Gone with the Wind.  The Ransom Center hopes to display the costumes in 2014 “as part of a major exhibition celebrating the 75th anniversary” of the film. Prop Store Brings Style & Substance to San Diego Comic Con with Array of Original TV and Movie Props and Costumes

The newly rebranded Prop Store are making their third consecutive San Diego Comic Con appearance this year.  Their exhibit and original props and costumes are displayed in increasingly impressive fashion, and attract a constant flow of attendees as well as media coverage.  Video interviews and discussions of the pieces and news will follow in a few days, including a close look at a fantastic new glossy brochure with information about the company, what they do, and highlights of some of the pieces from the store and within the collection.  Below is still photography of the pieces on display.  Prop Store will also be an exhibitor at next month’s Star Wars Celebration in Florida.

Profiles in History’s “Hollywood Auction 40″ was held Thursday, Friday and today on-site at the Profiles in History offices in Calabasas Hills, with remote bidding available over the Internet via LiveAuctioneers, as well as direct via mail, fax, and telephone bidding.  The first two days alone offered the type of material that is traditional for their regular auction events, including original television and movie props, costumes, and other memorabilia.  Today’s Day 3 included the special sale of material limited to the Star Trek franchise. Today Show Features Profiles in History “Iconic” TV and Movie Props & Costumes: Marilyn Monroe Dress, Wizard of Oz Wicked Witch Hat

As reported on earlier in the week, Profiles in History CEO Joe Maddalena was featured on this morning’s broadcast of The Today Show – “auctioning off iconic items from famous movies” – in promotion of next month’s sale event.  Of particular interest to the show was the Marilyn Monroe pink dress worn in the “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” scene in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and the Wicked Witch hat from Wizard of Oz. Profiles in History ‘Hollywood Auction 40′ High Resolution Photography: TV & Movie Prop and Costume Sale Event Image Preview

Yesterday I spent most of the day at the Profiles in History offices in Calabasas Hills, California to preview their “Hollywood Auction 40″ event scheduled for June 10-12.  In addition to extensive interviews with Joe Maddalena, President and CEO of the firm, I also took many photographs of the props, costumes, and other material being prepared for the auction.  This feature includes 270 photos of material on display at the auction house in preparation for the sale event. A new blog marketing the upcoming Star Trek portion of the Profiles in History “Hollywood Auction 40” has launched on the Internet, with additional photos and video of lots from the upcoming sale.  The videos uploaded thus far highlight the working electronics of some of the hero hand props from the Star Trek auction on June 12, 2010.
