Christie’s next “Pop Culture: Film and Entertainment” auction (Sale 6214) will be held November 23rd at South Kensington, London. The catalog for this event can now be viewed online. One of this year’s most talked about lots will likely be the Stormtrooper costume (sans helmet), described as “a collection of Stormtrooper costume components, with elements made for both of the first two films of the original [Star Wars] trilogy.”  Read more

Hobbyist Collector Launches “PROPbay” Online Museum and Marketplace to Auction, Buy, Sell, & Trade TV and Movie Props and Costumes

Fellow hobbyist Alex Tutusaus has this week launched a new service for television and movie prop collectors called “PROPbay”.  The online service and website was created to offer collectors an opportunity to share photos and information about pieces in their collection, as well as interact with one another to discuss trading, buying, and selling such material.  The site is dedicated to original production material (not replicas). Profiles in History have announced a special “Shoemania” charity auction which will benefit The Arts of Central Florida.  Presented in conjunction with Planet Hollywood and DSW Shoe Warehouse, the auction will include autographed shoes donated by a variety of celebrities.  The auction is slated to be held at the Designer Shoe Warehouse at The Milllenia Center in Orlando Florida on November 9th. “Lord of the Rings In Concert” Touring Attraction Features Original Movie Props & Costumes Display

The ‘Lord of the Rings in Concert’ tour launched last night in Glendale, Arizona with eight more dates in other cities through the rest of October.  Lord of the Rings movie prop and costume collector Troika will be traveling with the symphony and putting some of his remarkable collection on display for concert attendees.  Troika will be on hand at each concert to meet with fans and other original prop collectors. Premiere Props, Hollywood Live Auctions Present “Fangoria’s Annual Movie Prop Auction” – Catalog Online, Event October 22-23

Premiere Props/Hollywood Live Auctions is hosting what has become their annual “Fangoria’s Annual Movie Prop Auction”.  This year, it will be at their El Segundo facility on October 22nd and 23rd.  As per usual, auction service providers LiveAuctioneers and iCollector have both published the catalog online.  The marketing for the event claims over 1,000 items made available for sale, including a mix of original and replica material.  Though the sale is Fangoria-branded, it is not limited to the horror genre films/productions; much of the material is from a variety of other types of film, including drama, sci-fi, and action. Auctioneer Anderson & Garland are holding a “Costume Sale” in Newcastle on Saturday, October 8th, with ability to bid online as well.  Material comes from the Bazaar costume hire shops in Sunderland, Darlington, and Newcastle Upon Tyne.  While it appears a large number of the 658 lots are not from film or television productions, some such pieces are included in the offerings.  Read more

New Talk of a Hollywood History Museum Backed By AMPAS and LACMA – “The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures”

Last night the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art announced plans for a museum dedicated to the history of movies, tentatively called “The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures”, it is intended to take over the former May Company Department Store building near LACMA.  Read more

Burley Auction Group is holding an auction on October 22nd in Round Mountain, Texas to liquidate inventory from Moody Anderson and Terry Boothe’s “Texas Traders” movie prop warehouse.  Auction partner AuctionZip boasts material from True Grit, Office Space, Dazed and Confused, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, other  films.  In fact, it is claimed that “Moody has supplied props to nearly every movie filmed in Texas over the past 30 years“, though real details about auction items and lots are sparse at this time. eBay Entertainment Memorabilia Dealer Pleads Guilty to Fraud Charges in U.S. District Court

Per Reuters and other sources, eBay entertainment memorabilia dealer David Bruce Shyrock plead guilty to fraud charges in federal court today.  The Missouri resident faces up to 30 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $500,000 for a variety of charges, including defrauding over 1,200 eBay users out of nearly $175,000 by selling memorabilia with forged autographs on the popular online auction website.
