Propworx, known for their auction of original props, costumes, and other production material from Battlestar Galactica, has now begun selling entertainment memorabilia from the Stargate franchise on eBay on behalf of MGM, with plans of holding two live auctions selling such material in the future. Poster Fraud Update: Reports of FBI Investigation Seeking eBay Victims, Multiple Civil Lawsuits

As a brief update to the fraud revelations in the original movie poster/one sheet/lobby card collecting hobby – as reported on in the Fall of last year – yesterday a report surfaced on the MOvie POster “MoPo” Mailing List from a member who claims to have been contacted by the FBI with regards to an investigation into the purported fraud.  This is consistent with ongoing reports by “Learn About Movie Posters” (LAMP). Julien’s Auctions Continues To Fight Michael Jackson-Related Lawsuits

One of the big stories last year was the legal battle between Michael Jackson’s MJJ Productions and Julien’s Auctions over the disposition of Jackson-owned memorabilia consigned to the auction house.  This was ultimately settled between the parties a few months before the pop star’s death.  However, two other lawsuits linger, with legal action spilling into 2010. Superman Costume Collection Pulled From Upcoming ‘Morphy Auctions’ Sale Event

Earlier this month, Morphy Auctions listed a large collection of more than a dozen Superman-related principal costume and wardrobe pieces in their online catalog for their late February 2010 sale event.  As was the case with an unrelated auction last year (see Philip Weiss Auctions Cancels “Special Superhero Weekend”), it would appear that all items have been pulled from their upcoming sale. The Superman Cape Authentication Challenge: Consign with a Reputable Movie Prop & Costume Dealer or Auction House

The seller of a wardrobe piece featured in one of the recent and regular “Superman Costumes in the Marketplace Archive” articles (see December 2009) made a “Reader Comment” in response to the feature about his public “for sale” offering on eBay.  The owner of the “Super Hollywood” sourced and authenticated Superman cape has posted an open request for authentication.  Conversely, given that he purchased the item and now seeks to sell it, I would challenge him to query some of the reputable auction houses and dealers that make a regular business of selling original movie props and costumes to see which of them would take the piece on consignment. A story which has been playing out in the mainstream media recently involves multiple lawsuits and controversy with regards to autographed memorabilia, including doctored photos altered to include images of items that are completely fictional in the context of the original photos, with instruments and other material added to unrelated photos.
