One of two Bonhams events to be held next month is the “Entertainment Memorabilia including Animation Art” auction (Sale 17544), which will be held December 20th in Los Angeles. The catalog for this event can be viewed online.
The online catalog can be viewed at Bonhams.com:
This sale includes a total of 325 lots. Much of the auction is comprised of Hollywood and celebrity-owned memorabilia and personal property, photographs, stills, posters/one sheets, and general “entertainment memorabilia”, with very few original props and costumes. Also included in the auction are letters, contracts, scripts, caricatures, paper ephemera, paintings, prints, industry awards, and other memorabilia and movie and television production material and assets.
One of the highlights from the auction is Lot 2150: A painted backdrop used in the title sequence of “Gone With The Wind”
From the description:
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1939. Oil on board; depicting the iconic Tara as viewed from a distance; created for the elaborate opening credits sequence [the part that notes “At Tara / The O’Hara Plantation in Georgia”], though a slightly different version ended up being used — one without the bush in the foreground and with an added fence, etc. Painted by noted California plein air fine art artist, Fitch Fulton, who worked as an uncredited matte artist, creating a number of other background paintings for “GWTW.”
Framed: 35 x 39in; Painting only: 31 x 36in
Estimate: $20,000 – 25,000
