Impressive Original Prop Display Room in MovieHome Magazine
January 21, 2008 by Jason DeBord
Fellow original prop collector Mario Kirner (hollywood-at-home.de) sent me a copy of German magazine, MOVIEHOME (moviehome-magazin.de) featuring his media room which doubles as an original prop and wardrobe display area.
Because it is a German publication and would be difficult to obtain in the U.S., I’ve including some scans of the article below. I would recommend picking up the magazine if you can find it – very high quality and impressive (though I am not fluent in German, so I can’t speak to the written content).

There are a number of things I really like about Mario’s display room:
- The most obvious thing is the very clean look – one can’t help but be drawn to the pieces, which are displayed without any unnecessary clutter or additional memorabilia – the pieces are the focus in the room.
- The colors are very subtle and create a mood that works well with the films the pieces are from.
- The space feels very customized, yet there is no “overkill” – just touches here and there to create a unique environment.
- The lighting is wonderful – understated, if anything.
- Each piece has it’s own “space” to occupy – less is more.
- A simple 8×10 publicity shot accompanies the key pieces – most of which are easily recognizable to fans of contemporary film.
- The lighted insets into the wall itself is just brilliant – a fantastic way to really showcase those pieces.
Special thanks to Mario for sending me a copy of the magazine.

Jason, first of all, thanks a lot for this article!
It`s a real pleassure for me to part my prop room with our community through your blog.
I always loved to display all my pieces in an adequate way. I`m still working on displays and details but in overall I got finished the look I wanted.
You can guess it`s still a difference between seeing the pics compared to be in the room in real live. The lightening, the sound, the ambiance…
There are collectors that prefer to store their items away in storage boxes and similar. Others have their treassures lying around on the floor and you need to be carefull where to step in that room.
I`m no big fan of both. The props and costumes need to live and want to amaze.
Someone said on the forum a time ago “I would love to see people spending much more money for displays, instead of buying props”. Well, the author of this statement is selling displays for business :-) but I think he has a point there.
All my best,
Mario
